Marker Comps

Anyone who has ever wanted to get into advertising has most likely come across the phrase "marker comp" whilst building one's portfolio. The difference between executing a marker comp vs. a pretty looking idea is that the marker comp will allow you to decipher "This is bad" before 12 hours of meticulous photoshopping leads you to the same conclusion. For those of you not in advertising, "marker comp" is just a fancy word for "doodling really badly. With text. And arrows. And your boyfriend's name in hearts."

Simply, the marker comp helps you kill the idea before you kill yourself. It's also a great exercise when going through extreme writer's block, as demonstrated on this site. Take a looksy at a time when you're stuck.
